Galaxy Tab 4

The budget tablets from Samsung are getting better... sort of

Along with Samsung's pro line of premium high-spec tablets comes the more affordable, yet still functional Tab 4 series, with a slightly upgraded look. It also gains the faux-leather texture and chrome painted rim reminiscent of the Note 3, but without the fake stitches (a welcome change in our opinion). The 7.0 model is pretty thick at 9mm, but for a budget tablet, we've seen a lot worse, and is easy to hold with a beautiful screen that is bright and easy to see in the daylight. Understandably, with a tablet that's under $200 some sacrifices have to be made. The 3 megapixel camera comes to mind and although we still aren't sold on the idea of taplet-photography, it would still occasionally be handy to shoot a one off without reaching for our smartphones. The underwhelming camera also has no flash, which will spare you the embarrassment of trying to take pictures of your friends at the pub with a tablet you probably should have left at home in the first place. The processor is nothing to write home about either, speced at 1.2GHz (quad core), with 1.5 GB of RAM, more demanding games lag pretty badly, not that you'll be able to store very many of them with a rather anemic 8GB of internal storage.

The good news

But it's not all bad news. In addition to an expandable memory slot, you get an IR blaster to use your tablet as a really fancy remote for your home entertainment system. The 4000mAh battery provides a good few days of regular-use battery life, with even more possible for light-to moderate use. With this you also get Samsung's multi-window mode which is one of the few things that the series has over Google's New Nexus 7.

Protection is important

Just because you've opted for a budget tablet doesn't mean you have no interest in protecting it, which is why we've designed a variety of high quality cases to fit the Tab 4 series devices. With all ports accessible and a variety of styles to suit your tastes, there is a lot to like about the combination of this tablet, and your Tuff-Luv case.
