Evolution of Tuff-Luv Case Design
Each year brings us new challenges to keep us razor-sharp! Continually looking for new ideas and points of differences, we pride ourselves in not following the masses that churn out low quality copies of the same basic flip leather style cases or folio book-style covers. In our opinion, if we don’t innovate – we die! Our industry is no different than the industry we accessorise in that respect!
With many competitors on the market, our new designs have to be pioneering - setting the benchmarks for our competitors to follow. Our methodology is simple: unique, functional designs at reasonable prices with a lifetime guarantee!
i-nique launches with ipod mini cases in 2006
Psychedelic Zeb-i silicone skin and shiny neon 80s style iPod Mini® covers were massive! Arrggggh, not proud of this one — but hey, we were new to this, and still learning! The iPod Mini and iPod Classic were king, and typically the brighter and more stand-out the cover was, the better!
We sold our products under the brand name i-nique and worked from a small warehouse in Ashtead, all of us crammed into one office space – sharing a small cold warehouse with three other companies!
Eco-nique for ipod Touch in 2007
The MP3 was still king back in 2007. The iPod was cleaning up, but copious models of Sony Walkman®, Creative Zen® and Samsung® fed on the remains of the spoils left over from iPod®! The release of iPod Touch changed the game! Our new Eco-nique® range came into its own and began a new phase of innovation in covers. We started thinking more about new case designs and functionality for the future that lay ahead.
Apocalypse cases steel the show in 2008
Smart phones, iPhone® 3G and PMPs (Archos 5) lead the way. This gave us an opportunity to launch our ever-popular Apocalypse® series leather cases across multiple phones and MP3 players. We found customers requesting more and more designs, and the requests were as unique as the customers themselves. We signed a deal with Thule®, and launched our new e-volve range of patented, reversible neoprene sleeves for netbooks. Immensely popular, it wasn't long before the market was awash with the style, and the lawyers got busy!
By year end we had purchased our own building in Weybridge Surrey, and took a leap of faith into our new home.
Saddleback leather cases launched in 2009
A new market of e-book readers had launched and Kindle 2 was the clear winner. Our new traditional leather flip stand cover was so popular, that before long, just about every manufacturer was replicating it! This was the perfect opportunity to launch our rugged Tuff-Luv Saddleback® leather cases. Emphasising class and ‘tuff’ quality, they were a great success.
Tuff-Luv Bi-axis and multi-view for Ipad and Kindle were massive in 2010
A big year of innovation, the launch of the Apple iPad® gave all cover manufacturers a challenge. Taking this head-on, we quickly developed our patented Multi-View® case that offered support and gave five viewing angles on one axis. Very soon thereafter came the Bi-Axis® version — a world-first landscape and portrait stand with no moving parts for iPad. A multitude of others have since tried to replicate this functionality through the use of moving parts in the case, inevitably bulking it up!
The launch of the iPhone 4 gave us an opportunity to develop our very popular Tuff-Grip style leather Tuff-grip. We will no doubt continue this popular style into our new iPhone 5 series covers when they are launched.
The tail-end of 2010 was dominated by the ever-popular Kindle 3 device. This allowed us to launch the Multi-View in various styles and fabrics. Our new natural Hemp folio cover has proved successful in breaking away from the traditional leather mold and offering a new alternative to customers that wanted a wider choice.
Marrakesh range of cases lead the way in 2011
Our website www.i-nique.com was officially re-branded tuff-luv.com.
The launch of the new wave of tablets and Android platforms has given us carte blanche to try a few new styles. The new registered design Tri-Axis® case is an improved version of the Multi-view and Bi-Axis covers that did so well. With additional angles and a slimmed-down stand, we now have a product that will stand on any axis!
The launch of our Marrakesh and Polka Hot series should prove to be great hits and they will offer more choice to a wider demographic. We expect cases for the HTC, Xoom, Blackberry®, Playbook and Galaxy Tab to be popular as the world goes tablet crazy! 2011 saw the re-nomination by Macworld Magazine for best ipad 2 accessory for our Tri-Axis case
So what else is in store for the rest of the year?... Mmm, that would be telling!
